Sathiraju Sankara Narayana was born in 1936 in the small town of Narsapur in Andhra Pradesh, India. He completed his Masters Degree in Economics from Loyola College, Chennai and joined the services of All India Radio in 1963. After working in various capacities for 32 years, he retired in 1995 as Station Director in Chennai.
Sankara Narayana hails from an artistic family. His father was a very creative person and his elder brother, Bapu is an eminent artist and Film Director. Inspired by his elder brother, he used to draw cartoons in his earlier days and took to drawing portraits later.
After retiring from service, he continued making portraits of eminent personalities from different fields covering Philosophy, Politics, Music, Sports, Art, Literature and Industry and has completed over 400 portraits using Indian ink, Charcoal and Pencil. |
He has won many accolades for his work and has got back autographed portraits from President Kalam, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Vajpayee, Amitabh Bachchan, Ratan Tata, Azim Premji, Prof. M S Swaminathan, Infosys-Narayanamurthy, Sudha Murthy, Gopulu, SPB, P B Sreenivos, Yesudas, Girish Karnad, Balamurali Krishna, Dr U R Anantha Murthy, Gummadi, Dr C Narayana Reddy, Veturi and many others.
His portraits are being published in the inner cover of ‘Navya’, a Telugu weekly. So far, about 100 portraits have appeared in the magazine. Lately, his portraits are also being featured in an International publication called Catalyst, published in the USA. Popular dailies 'Eenadu' and 'Vaarta' of Andhra Pradesh have carried articles on his portraits.
He currently lives at A-3, ‘Kothari Karuna’, 71, Anna Street, Tiruvanmiyur, Chennai – 600041, continuing to pursue his passion for capturing famous personalities through his portraits.Contact: shankarair(at)gmail.com |
